Designed and manufactured by Alimak to enhance the safety of operations, an Alimak safety device can be found in all Alimak construction hoists and industrial elevators. Depending on the model of the elevator, a GF or GFD device may be fitted to cater for varying load capacities and travel speeds. The device operates completely independently of the elevator drive unit and, instead, is installed inside the elevator car and is engaged by two pinions.The Alimak safety device is designed to bring the car to a controlled stop in the event of an emergency when the rated speed of the car is exceeded. The device features a pinion that is in contact with the mast and a shaft with a centrifugal weight. The weight is activated, and a break cone is screwed into place against the break lining of the safety housing to bring the elevator to a stop and cutting off the motor.
The safety device requires no maintenance and has an operational life of four years after which it must be replaced to ensure there are minimal defects or wear that could inhibit the functionality of the device. Alimak Service offers a complete range of service and maintenance solutions designed to enhance the safety of vertical access operations. Service and maintenance solutions can be carried out on an ad-hoc basis or as part of a long-term agreement.
