Vertical access systems at Landmark Pinnacle, London receive tailored service solutions

Alimak Service offer comprehensive service and support solutions which have provided a key role in the construction of a residential skyscraper in the heart of London’s Docklands. Landmark Pinnacle will be the tallest residential building in Europe. Reaching 239-metres and at 75 storeys, it will also achieve the most habitable floors of residential building in Europe.

Throughout construction and after opening, vertical access solutions will be integral to completing the building and maintaining the facade in prime condition. From Alimak construction hoists to CoxGomyl building maintenance units, Alimak Service provide unique expertise in servicing to keep vital vertical access equipment running with efficiency and reliability.

Alimak Service provided a comprehensive package of service solutions which began initially with the installation for the common tower and construction hoists. The project involved the purchase of four Alimak construction hoists, and a fifth hoist hired later in the project. All hoists shared a common tower which saved all important space in a congested ground floor working area. The single tower also helped keep costs down and, when installed alongside a smart staggered hoist strategy, maximise efficiency.

This type of installation is usually completed by hand but on this occasion a tower crane was utilised. Alimak Service were able to maintain consistent vertical access for material and personnel as the project progressed with a carefully planned sequence of hoist installations which also built in the timescale for concrete frame installation with construction of one floor completing each week. The common tower in itself covered all 75 storeys with a footprint of 5 meters square. This supported a wide range of Alimak hoists from high-speed models to specialist twin mast hoist offering 45m³ in volume and a weight capacity of 5,500kg.

As the recognised service provider for Alimak, Alimak Service continued working on the construction project beyond the initial installation and operator training. The ongoing support of a comprehensive Service package ensured optimal performance through preventative maintenance and proactive project management, with safety measures and productivity always in mind. Quick response and genuine spare parts were conveniently available from the locally based Alimak Service team.

Alimak Service also helped to facilitate the expanded use of the common tower to complete facade infill work to two thirds of the building, requiring tie removal and reinstallation sequencing to be executed whilst vertical material and personnel movements continued. The complete dismantle of the common tower and hoists was completed on time, to budget and safely.

Following completion, a different type of vertical access system was required for consistent facade cleaning, facade maintenance, and glass replacement. One of the leading names in facade access solutions, CoxGomyl, provided two building maintenance units (BMUs) operating on a twin track layout. Again, the role of Alimak Service as the recognised service provider for CoxGomyl building maintenance units extended beyond the installation to include extensive testing and certification. The expert Alimak Service team will also be providing ongoing protection for the facade access system and its safe operation with an ongoing service maintenance agreement and a comprehensive package including training for operators and duty holders.
